Who can open a wholesale account?

Independent grocery stores, restaurants, foodservice buyers and grocery chains. Shaly Foods sells wholesale only, not to individual consumers.

Does it cost anything to apply?

No. Applying and getting a price list is free. You only pay for what you order.

How long does it take to open an account?

About a week from first contact to first delivery, in most cases faster for accounts in Metro Vancouver.

Is there a minimum order to become a vendor?

Yes: $300 to $500 on the first order, depending on your shipping area. Shaly Foods sells by the case and the pallet, mixed across produce and packaged goods on one account.

What payment terms does Shaly Foods offer?

Net terms, once the credit application clears. First orders can go COD while trade references are being checked, and accounts move to terms after that. Title to the goods stays with Shaly Foods Inc. until the invoice is paid in full, which is standard on wholesale produce and is set out in the terms of sale.

When do I place an order, and when does it arrive?

Local standing-route accounts order against a weekly cut-off and receive on a scheduled delivery day, both fixed when the account opens. Out-of-province orders are booked against the arrival calendar for the crop instead, because most of the line is imported and lands on a shipping schedule rather than sitting in year-round inventory. Confirmed orders on local routes can usually still be changed up to your cut-off; pre-booked import product cannot, because it was bought against your order.

What happens if a delivery arrives short, damaged or off-spec?

Note it on the delivery paperwork before you sign, then contact Shaly Foods the same day and in any case within 24 hours. Send photographs of the product, the carton, the pack label and the pallet, and hold the product under refrigeration until the claim is settled. Accepted claims are settled as a credit on your next invoice, replacement product on your next scheduled delivery, or a refund, normally issued within five business days of the claim being confirmed. The 24 hour window exists because condition on a perishable item cannot be assessed after the fact.

Is delivery charged on top of the order?

In Metro Vancouver, no: delivery on Shaly Foods' own refrigerated trucks is included above the order minimum unless your quote says otherwise. Out-of-province freight is quoted per shipment and shown on the invoice, with carrier fuel surcharges passed through at cost rather than marked up.
