Wholesale Jordanian Produce, Shipped Canada-Wide

Jordan is Shaly Foods Inc.'s line for yellow-stage Barhi dates and figs. The company imports both straight from Jordanian growers and ships wholesale to grocers, restaurants and distributors across British Columbia, Alberta and the rest of Canada from its Vancouver base, sold by the carton and pallet, not the piece.

What we bring from Jordan

Jordan is a two-item line: yellow Barhi dates and fresh figs. Both are sold fresh and both turn soft within days, so they're ordered for this week's shelf rather than for the back room. Request the current price list for what's landing this week.

Barhi Dates (yellow)

Picked at the khalal stage: yellow, crisp and slightly astringent, eaten like an apple. This is the item most often ordered wrong. A customer asking for fresh yellow Barhi will refuse the soft brown dates sold year-round, and the reverse holds too.

Figs

Fresh figs from Jordanian growers. They bruise easily and keep only a few days, even cold, so order what your shelf will move this week.

Selling yellow Barhi dates

Keep them cold and put them out whole: the crunch is what the customer is paying for. When the tips start turning brown and soft, the dates are ripening into rutab. Some shoppers want exactly that and others won't touch it, so sell the yellow ones first and price the softening ones to move.

Ordering

Barhi dates and figs sell wholesale only, by the case. Metro Vancouver runs on Shaly Foods' own trucks, and the rest of Canada ships refrigerated, which matters more for these two than for anything else on the line. See shipping and delivery for routes and how pricing works.

Do you sell yellow Barhi dates from Jordan?

Yes, fresh at the khalal stage: yellow and crisp. Shaly Foods sells them hard only, before they soften, never as soft brown or dried dates.

Do you sell fresh figs from Jordan?

Yes, fresh and by the case. They're perishable, so order for this week's shelf.
